This is the site of the first public high scholl in the state of North Carolina.
It began as a private hgi school known as Cary Academy, and later went public as Cary High School. The school then moved down Walnut Street int eh 1970's and the building housed the Cary Elementary School until the early 2000's. The County sold the Town of Cary the building and it was decided for it to become the first phase of the Cary Downtonw Revitalization, when it opend in 2011 as The Cary Arts Center.
